Week 24 (Month 6)

Eric is now 1.25 pounds and is almost a foot long (the size of an ear of corn). His taste buds are developing! The top of my uterus is now an inch above my belly button, which means it's about the size of a soccer ball (hey, what happened to the fruit & veggies?)

It's taken until now for people to stop looking at me like they aren't sure if I am pregnant and start saying silly things to me about my pregnancy. I still haven't had any strangers touch my bump, but I hear that is soon to come. The checker guy at the grocery store commented on the cookies I bought, asking if my baby was hungry. The cookies were for Hub's work, but Eric did get a few!

Our birthing class teacher is a Doula (a woman experienced in childbirth who provides advice, information, and emotional support to a mother before, during, and just after childbirth), she showed us another scary movie and then had us put our hands (up to the wrists) in a giant bowl of ice and water. We had to leave our hands in the water for 1 minute. After my hand was in the freezing ice water for a few seconds I started to feel pain and it got worse and worse. The point was to simulate the pain of a contraction so that the ladies in the class could practice how to breath and our Husbands could practice how to talk us through it. We did this about 6 times (with different techniques) and our teacher says we will learn new techniques and continue practicing in this manner each class - yikes!!!

I remember the ice thing when I did Lamaze classes. I found breathing through the pain of ice was about as ineffective as breathing through a contraction. I hope you are much better at it than I was. I am a huge pain wimp.
